Application and application process

To apply for the programme, applicants are kindly asked to submit:

  • a filled-in doctoral programme application of JyU,
  • a filled-in application of BIBS incl. enclosures (please see the application),
  • a letter explaining the expectations and motives of the applicant for enrolling onto a doctoral programme, incl. giving a description of prior working or study experience in English, if appropriate,
  • a professional CV,
  • copies of university diplomas to provide evidence of prior education (master level) – the diplomas can be accepted in Czech or English, if in other language, please also enclose a translation into ideally English (or Czech),
  • documents acknowledging the English language skills (prior work or study experience in English or an IELTS/TOEFL test score of 250 (computer-based test) / 600 (paper-based test). Where prior work of study experience would apply, the documents witnessing the candidate’s level of English might be for example letters of recommendation signed by an employer, teacher, etc.

Please send the completed and (where appropriate) signed documents ideally by the middle of June 2010 (the first group) or by the end of December (the second group) to:

Alternatively, you can personally hand your complete application to Mr. Bedřich Snášel (our account manager for doctoral programmes, snasel@bibs.cz, +420 775 958 732) with whom you would be communicating during the application process.

If needed (for example in the case of time shortage), the documents can be also faxed to + 420 545 242 582, c/o Alexandra Šaponja. In parallel with the fax the originals of the documents must also be delivered to the above address as well.

After receiving your completed application, it will be considered at BIBS and JyU. JyU would consider the applications at its nearest faculty meeting, which takes place approx. once a month (the nearest one due to summer holidays would be held in August 2009). Once knowing the decision on the side of both institutions, BIBS will notify you about the decisions of BIBS and JyU by a letter sent to the correspondence address indicated on your application. If accepted for the studies, a package of start-up information and documents will also be included with the decisions (logins into the BIBS and JyU information system – library and intranet, BIBS study contracts, information about the time, date and place of your first doctoral seminar, etc.).

The application process can take from 3 to 8 weeks from the receipt of your application.
